I included this craft on one of my craft days for grades 1 to 6. I thought it was a little lame, but the sample came out cute and the kids loved it. It was one of the most popular choices of the day.

I bought a plastic boomerang that I can't get to work, but the cardboard ones I purchased from Oriental Trading do at least curve if thrown in an area with no wind. I had originally planned just to have the kids decorate the cardboard boomerangs to use as decorations.

For those of you who do not know this, or forgot - CHILIS has purchased 3 Accucut Machines for librarians to use. The machines are hosted at Bedford Public, Franklin Public and Weeks Memorial Library in Lancaster. If you want to use the dies, please call the library first to make sure the machine is available and someone can assist you. You provide the materials you want to use, such as construction paper, foam, card stock, etc. There is an alphabet set and various dies, including the kangaroo and koala ( the ones given out at the NHLA conference).

two decorating ideas -- make animals out of styrofoam sheets (available at building suppy centers) and cut them with a jigsaw. Paint and you have light animals that are easy to hang or prop up on a bookcase. You can use an overhead projector to make the image large. Also painting on paper adhered to cardboard is also a nice result.

If you can find the audio version of this book it is wonderful. John Lithgow narrates it himself and it has gotten rave reviews by kids and parents.
