A LETTER FROM THE CHILIS PRESIDENT WELCOME, FELLOW TOUR GUIDES! Open your atlas, unfold your maps, and get ready to escort your young readers to a summer of fun with Reading Road Trip, U.S.A., the 2007 New Hampshire Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme offers a variety of routes to help plan your trip to a summer of great reading. Consider this manual your personal trip planner, whether you are new to the road or an experienced traveler. The Summer Reading Program Committee has designed this guide to help you plan your itinerary. You’ll find a carload of ideas—activities and programs, crafts and puzzles, sample parent letters and press releases, to name just a few. You are invited to use these ideas as a point of departure for your own personalized summer reading trip. This year’s artwork has been created by author/illustrator Julie Brillhart, a resident of Concord. (Read more about her in this manual!) Your readers will be ready to hit the road when they see the delightful artwork on the Summer Program poster, T-shirt and tote bag, as well as on the reading logs, certificates, and bookmarks. Julie has also provided a trunkful of clip art for you to use in your own publicity! At the end of the journey, please be sure to fill out the evaluation form found in this manual and return it to the SRP committee. This information helps us in future funding, and lets us know what does or doesn’t work. We need your valuable input in mapping out future summer reading adventures. And speaking of input, we love having new ideas for summer reading. If you would like to share yours while having a busload of fun, consider becoming part of the Summer Reading Program Committee. We meet the first Friday morning of each month at the Local Government Center in Concord. Contact Deb Hoadley at the Plaistow Public Library (382-6011) or Ann Hoey at the State Library (271-2865) for more information. So pack your bags, check the tires and fasten your seatbelt for a summer of reading fun and adventure! Pam Stauffacher CHILIS President
