Introduction

Introduction - NH SRP 2008Summer Reading Programs result in many benefits to the participants, the library and the community. They are designed to encourage the habit of recreational reading by children and their families during the summer vacation months.

The Benefits of having a Summer Reading Program:
  • Students who read over the summer retain more of their reading skills and are better prepared for school in the fall.
  • Involve the youth of your community in positive activities by having them volunteer to help out at your library.
  • It is good public relations for your library. The Summer Reading Program helps promote library services to the general public.
  • Encourages children and parents in the habit of using the public library.
  • Has the potential to convert non-library users into lifelong library users.
  • Keeps those circulation statistics from dropping during the summer.
  • Promotes the development of reading and the habit of reading.
Using clipart from this website The clipart is copyright free for NH Librarians and can be used to create small posters to hang up around town. Magnify or reduce the clipart as needed to create handouts, bookmarks, coloring sheets, and letterheads for thank you notes or for anything else that you can imagine. Make a transparency for an overhead projector and trace the clipart onto a wall or large poster. If you wish to use the artwork and you are not a NH Librarian, please contact the Children's Librarians of New Hampshire (CHILIS) for rights and permissions.
