Summer Reading Programs result in many benefits to the participants, the library and the community. They are designed to encourage the habit of recreational reading by children and their families during the summer vacation months.
The Benefits of having a Summer Reading Program: - Students who read over the summer retain more of their reading skills and are better prepared for school in the fall.
- Involve the youth of your community in positive activities by having them volunteer to help out at your library.
- It is good public relations for your library. The Summer Reading Program helps promote library services to the general public.
- Encourages children and parents in the habit of using the public library.
- Has the potential to convert non-library users into lifelong library users.
- Keeps those circulation statistics from dropping during the summer.
- Promotes the development of reading and the habit of reading.
